From November 12nd to 13th, the 11th Young Teachers' Teaching Skills Contest Final and the 5th English Teaching Contest, jointly organized by the Center for Teaching and Learning Development, Trade Union, Academic Affairs Office and Human Resources Office, were held in Jimei 2 and Nanqiang.

In addition to the large number of participants, another highlight of this competition is the debut of the “flipped classroom”. According to the organizing committee, flipped classroom is an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning that reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom. In a flipped classroom, students watch online lectures, collaborate in online discussions, or carry out research at home and engage in concepts in the classroom with the guidance of a mentor. The flipped classroom intentionally shifts instruction to a learner-centered model in which class time explores topics in greater depth and creates meaningful learning opportunities. By adding “flipped teaching” contest, we intend to explore and encourage this new teaching mode so as to promote reform and innovation in our classroom teaching and to improve the quality of education and teaching. This new practice attracted the attention of both teachers and students, hundreds came to observe the contest.

On the morning of the 13th, President Zhu Chongshi came to the scene of flipped classroom. He said: Classroom teaching is an important way to cultivate talents. Teaching competition has become a good platform for Xiamen University to improve the quality of education and teaching. Many excellent teachers, including teachers that students are most fond of, stand out from this contest. He encouraged teachers to be creative, to make full use of advanced teaching techniques, and to make bold reforms.
