XMU Advances Rapidly in QS Asia University Rankings

Xiamen University (XMU) made great progress in the 2015 QS Asia University Rankings, moving up 10 places to 76th among all Asia universities, up 4 places to 16thin China. The advance of the academic standing of XMU can be credited to the improvement in the following key indicators: academic reputation, citations per paper, and international faculty. Academic reputation, which represents the perceptions of academics from around the world as to the best institutions in terms of research, positions XMU 14thamong universities in China, 65thall over Asia.  Citations per paper, which signifies the impact and quality of the scientific work done by universities, situates XMU 9thin China, 75tharound Asia. The proportion of international faculty, manifesting the level of internationalization, places XMU 11thin China, with a rise of 6 places compared to last year.

In addition to QS, XMU also enjoys high rankings released by other authorities. It is ranked 16
th among universities in China in the “2015 Best Global Universities Rankings” published by US News; 6th for “overall satisfaction” among the 39 universities participating in “Project 985” ( a national project for building world-class universities, announced in May 1998), 1st for “satisfaction with study environment”, 2nd for “life satisfaction” based on a student survey recently conducted by an authoritative admission website affiliated with China’s Ministry of Education.

To introduce quality international education integrated with Chinese elements, XMU is now dedicated to setting up a branch campus in Malaysia. For the present, the 1
st  section in Phase 1 of the campus construction is slated for completion this July, with the intention of meeting the needs of the first batch of students. The initial intake for undergraduate programmes is set around February 2016, while for foundation programmes around April 2016.
